Elliot Howard Bassman earned his MFA degree from Columbia University. An artist, author and curator, he has given many readings of his poetry and essays at Giovanni’s Room in Philadelphia and at FlushingTown Hall in Queens. His essay, “Sylvia,” published in Walking Higher, was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Based on this essay he created and directed his first video, "The  Word  Never  Mentioned"  (Ryan Tully videographer) which won  Best Documentary Short at the Queens World Film Festival。Bassman sadly died in 2014.

He has illustrated both his own work and works by other Feral Press authors.
